HANGZHOU Ivan Rodriguez Authentic Jersey , June 15 (Xinhua) -- An exhibition of Chinese and Indian sculptures dating from 400 to 700 A.D. opened Thursday in east China's Zhejiang Province.

The three-month-long exhibition being held at the Zhejiang Provincial Museum includes 56 sculptures from nine Indian museums and 86 sculptures from 18 Chinese museums. Entrance to the exhibition is free to the public.

The period from 400 to 700 A.D. was when eminent Chinese monks Faxian, Yijing, and Xuanzang travelled west to collect Buddhist scriptures. It was Xuanzang, a monk during China's Tang Dynasty (618-907), who first translated the current Chinese version of the name of India.

Indian artworks were spread across southeast Asia and China during this period.

A Buddhist sculpture on display has the Chinese characters for India as an inscription on the back. This shows that the statue was made after Xuanzang returned from his pilgrimage, said Wang Yanjia from the Palace Museum in Beijing.

The sculpture was unearthed in Xi'an, capital of northwest China's Shaanxi Province in 1954.

Another sculpture discovered in east China's Shandong Province has a similar style to an Indian sculpture, indicating the exchange at art techniques during ancient times.

The exhibition is hosted by the Zhejiang Provincial Museum, the Palace Museum and the National Museum of India.

HONG KONG, March 3 (Xinhua) -- Institut Pasteur, a leading non- profit international biomedical research organization, launched a global health initiative in Hong Kong, aiming to raise 120 million U.S. dollars by 2020 for several projects to combat infectious diseases.

The scheme, called "The 2020 Pasteur Global Health Initiative", targeted to implement efficient scientific programs at Pasteur Institutes located in the most vulnerable areas, to create new research institutes where there is a need in critical zones and to train the new generation of global health scientists.

President of Institut Pasteur Christian Brechot said at the press meeting that with emerging viruses from SARS and Avian Influenza to the more recent Ebola outbreaks, there a dire need to address these global epidemics by understanding how viruses spread for effective disease prevention, rapid diagnostic tests and medical treatment.

French actress Sophie Marceau, who also attended the press conference, said Institut Pasteur's belief in the power of scientific teamwork and international collaboration to curing life- threatening viruses fast and efficiently is an inspiration.

"China is now really open to collaborate with the rest of the world, with great scientists, and I am sure this collaboration will be a great success," she said.

Founded in 1887 in France, Institut Pasteur's three core missions are research, global health management and education. It now owns 33 branch institutes in 26 countries and areas, including the HKU-Pasteur Research Pole.

ISTANBUL, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- Turkey's entertainment and business sectors urged people to maintain a high morale on Thursday and not to isolate themselves in the face of growing terrorist attacks.

Four civil society organizations, the United Brands Association, the Chain Stores Association, the Turkish Restaurants and Entertainment Association as well as the Restaurants and Suppliers Union, launched a campaign in Istanbul, Turkey's most populous city hit hard by terrorism, calling for Turks to "hold on to your life."

The campaign urges all Turkish society sectors and citizens to keep up their usual daily activities, despite the threat of repeated deadly attacks.

"We invite them to go out, to dine out, go to cinemas and have fun," Sinan Oncel, head of the United Brands Association, said during a press briefing.

"Let's fill the streets, theaters, entertainment locations and continue living a normal rhythm of life," added Oncel.

A deluge of deadly attacks, in particular the mass shooting which targeted a night club in Istanbul on New Year's Eve, killing 39 civilians, has scared many citizens away from public places.

With the lone gunman still at large, tips have trickled in, with one prompting a police search to suspend the metro service for hours in Istanbul on Wednesday.

Under the "hold on to your life" campaign, Turks are also asked to video and share their videos on social media as they enjoy their outside recreational activities.

"We will not be defeated by those intending to lock us behind closed doors," said Alp Onder Ozpamukcu, Chain Stores Association Chief.

Kaya Demirer, head of the Turkish Restaurants and Entertainment Association, appealed to the international community to support Turkish citizens living under the threat of terrorism.
